Jitter in High Definition Video Playback

So it seems my previous reverence for VLC is now somewhat diminished since discovering it’s ineffably crap at rendering HD videos. Unsurprising, since it cannot take advantage of cards that support hardware-level decoding of the bits and bytes that provide such fine definition.
Jerky, jittering playback pissing me off to the highest degree, I set out with a metaphorical hammer to give this irritation some percussive debuggery.

Wasting 100 quid on an ACM membership is the single most smacktardy thing I did last month.
